The Rhein beneficiation plant

The low grade magnetic ore (TS) running 37% Fe and extracted at the Rhein is beneficiated in an ore dressing plant.

AS a consequence of the water shortage, the treatment is based on a dry process consisting mainly in semi-autogeneous grinding (SAG), a 1.6 mm screen classifier and low intensity magnetic separators. The concentrates thus processed run 66% Fe and are sold as sinter feed. The yearly yield averages four million tonnes. Rhein bucket wheel reclaimer
The following measures have been taken in order to enhance the product’s yield and quality :

  • Commissioning of a regrinding system in September 2000. This system makes it possible to process separately the oversize from the control screens and the middlings, which restricted the grinders’ production.

  • Commissioning of a plant for the spiral-based humid gravimetric separation : this plant makes it possible to process oxidized ores(TH) which were not adapted to a dry processing.

  • Construction of a Humid Magnetic Separation plant.
This plant makes it possible to process the underflow from the cyclones and the fine particles from the electrostatic filters in order to produce concentrates with less than 5% of SiO2.

All of the above measures should make it possible to increase the plant’s production capacity to 5.1 Mt.
